THE CONQUEST
2 DAYS. OVER 200 KILOMETRES. 1 EPIC RIDE.
18-19 October, 2013. Riding throughout Western Australia's scenic countryside in two days. Sure, it sounds like a lot - and it's meant to be. But make no mistake, this event isn't just for athletes or cycling enthusiasts.
The Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer® benefiting the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research is for anyone who wants to challenge themselves for a great cause. All you need is motivation, a bike and a helmet. The money raised for The Ride benefits the Harry Perkins Institute, Western Australia's premier adult medical research institute.
Each person in Team Nexus Wealth is here because we know that cancer is too big a disease to ignore. It affects everyone, maybe you, me, our parents, kids, siblings or friends. Sadly, maybe all of the above. But by riding in this event we are doing something about it. We're rolling closer and closer to the end of cancer. It's an awesome triumph in a physical sense and emotionally as well.
The 2-day cycling adventure began as Team Nexus Wealth gathered with fellow Riders for an inspiring Opening Ceremony, where we remembered those lost to cancer and honours those continuing the fight.
Discovering some of Western Australia's most dramatic landscapes, Team Nexus Wealth experienced Perth's urban excitement juxtaposed with rolling countryside at the foot of the Darling Range.
Day One culminated with arrival an overnight campout in the Mandurah area. After camping overnight under the stars, Day Two led us further through the inspiring landscape, as we made our way towards the Finish Line - a high energy celebration of our epic Ride and the amazing impact we helped make in the quest to conquer cancer.
Update October 19th (Perth): The Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer announced 1,336 Riders raised $5.2 million for the Western Australian Institute for Medial Research (WAIMR).
"Funding for cancer research is vital for all Australians to both prevent the disease and help ensure the people who are diagnosed have the best options available to beat it," said Craig Godfrey, Sunsuper spokesperson.
"Our community of 1.2 million members and over 650 employees are behind and fully support WAIMR and the life-saving research underway by their world-leading doctors and researchers. Just about every one of us has or will be affected by cancer, so for everyone here today this is personal. We are honored and inspired participate in incredible effort," Mr. Godfrey added.
"The generous contributions from each sponsor is very important, and help us to offset the event costs so more funds raised can directly support our cancer program. We are extremely grateful to all our sponsors for their support," Professor Klinken added.
Registration for the 2014 Ride opened on Saturday. The 3rd annual Ride will be held October 18th & 19th of next year in WA.
